Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery General Obstetrics and Gynecology Top Welcome to the section of minimally invasive gynecologic surgery in the University of Florida Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in Jacksonville, Florida. Our department's residency program provides contemporary training in gynecology and gynecologic surgery. Our gynecology faculty consists of experienced general OB-GYNs and a fellowship-trained minimally invasive gynecologic surgeon. There are multiple opportunities for our residents to acquire advanced surgical skills during each of their four years of training. We perform the majority of our operations through a minimally invasive route. These include transvaginal, hysteroscopic, conventional laparoscopic, and operations using the da Vinci Xi Robotic Surgical System. We have a referral-based Complex Gynecology Clinic in which patients with medically and surgically difficult conditions are seen for consultation from colleagues and community practices. We treat an array of conditions, including: Pelvic pain Advanced-stage endometriosis Abnormal uterine bleeding Leiomyomas (uterine fibroids) Pelvic masses Infertility Surgical candidates are reviewed in a weekly preoperative conference, in which group discussion and decision-making is used to provide the standard of care for our patients. Our junior residents complete a simulation program in the da Vinci Robotic Surgical System using the most current SimNow software. This provides the foundation for our learners to perform robotic operations and acquire da Vinci System Training Certification by graduation. Our department performs more than 100 robotic-assisted laparoscopic operations every year. We have the da Vinci dual console set up to facilitate hands-on simultaneous teaching during operations. There are numerous research opportunities in clinical and surgical gynecology within our program with potential for publication in reputable medical journals. Thank you for your interest in our program.
